M11 Zone 10 — 155 mm propellant charge
Propellant charges M11 Zone 10 from the Serbian manufacturer “Yugoimport” are used in 155 mm artillery systems and are designed to provide long-range firing.
Characteristics:
- Type: Non-adjustable, single-use charges for 155 mm howitzers.
- Configuration: The M11 charges have a fixed configuration, with no option to adjust them for different ranges.
- Additives: These charges contain additives such as lead foil to remove copper oxide fouling and potassium sulfate to reduce the visibility of the muzzle flash.
M11 is a unitary Zone 10 propellant charge for 155 mm howitzers that allows firing to distances of up to 39 km with the projectiles ERFB Mk 10/2 and ERFB-BB.
The charge consists of a combustible case, an igniter and a bundle of propellant sticks. The case is made of kraft paper, which burns up after firing. The igniter contains black powder and CBI to ignite the propellant sticks. The sticks have a low burning temperature, which extends barrel life and reduces flash visibility. To protect the barrel from copper oxide, the bundle of propellant sticks is wrapped in lead foil. M203A1 is a modern and effective charge for artillery.
The design contains granular propellant in a white bag. The charge casing is sewn from fabric and laced along its entire length, which provides rigidity and structural stability to the assembled charge.
Technical specifications
M11 Zona 10:
- Explosive weight: 17 kg
- Length: 780 mm
- Muzzle velocity, Vo,: 895 m/s
- Temperature range: -46 °C / +52 °C
Maximum the firing range projectiles ERFB Mk 10/2 and ERFB-BB. : 39 km
Usage notes
Not the most modern propellant charge. At a weight of 17 kg it is less powerful than 6 TC-F, TCME modules weighing 9 kg. It fouls the barrel and gets wet easily.
For Kropyva it can be compared to the M203A1 charge, or something between 5 and 6 modules M232, TC-F, DM72, DM92, TCME 100
The M11 charge cannot be adjusted.
Not used with the projectiles:
M107, M449, M449A1, M483A1, M692/M731, M718/M741, M485A1, M485A2, M110(M110E1), M110A1(M110E2), M110A2(M110E3), M116, M116B1 M116A1, M804, M804A1, M109A2/A3/A4/A5/A6, M109A1, M864.
