M692 remote-mining projectile

M692, M731 ADAM — anti-personnel remote-mining projectiles

M692 mines These projectiles are used for remote laying of anti-personnel mines.

The ADAM remote-mining system projectiles are the M692, loaded with 36 M72 mines, and the M731, loaded with 36 M67.
M72 elements self-destruct after 48 hours (M692); M67 elements after 4 hours following dispersion (M731 projectile).

The maximum firing range of these projectiles is 17 km. The purpose of ADAM mines is to close off a certain area, even in the enemy rear, to enemy movement for a relatively short period of time. After that time, the mines self-destruct.

The mines are dispersed at a height of approximately 600 m above the target area. Because ADAM mines have no mechanism to slow their fall (such as a parachute), they must not be dispersed onto hard surfaces such as asphalt or concrete. A hard impact on a solid surface will damage the mine.

Technical specifications

- Type — fragmentation
- Weight with fuze - 45.6 kg
- Length without fuze - 889 mm
- Number of canisters:
- M67 - 36 pcs. (M731)
- M72 - 36 pcs. (M692)

Planned calculated density for mine laying per 1,000 m² (a 32×32 m area).

- minimum: 12 mines;
- normal: 12 mines;
- maximum: 24 mines.

Planned calculated density for reinforced mine laying per 1,000 m² (a 32×32 m area).

- minimum: 24 mines;
- normal: 48 mines;
- maximum: 96 mines.

- Temperature range - from -31.6 °C to +52 °C

Usage notes

The projectiles were designed for use with the M577. They can also be used with other electronic time fuzes, and mechanical time fuzes with impact action.

Scattered mines are very effective even when exposed on the surface of the ground, because they are relatively small and naturally colored. From 5 to 15 percent of the scattered mines will come to rest at the edge of the dispersion zone.

Range table for different charges (M109 gun):
M3A1 charge 1 - 3,640 m
M3A1 charge 2 - 4,570 m
M3A1 charge 3 - 5,590 m
M3A1 charge 4 - 7,080 m
M3A1 charge 5 - 9,050 m
M4A2 charge 3 - 6,490 m
M4A2 charge 4 - 7,720 m
M4A2 charge 5 - 9,420 m
M4A2 charge 6 - 11,730 m
M4A2 charge 7 - 14,320 m
M119/M119A1 - 17,740 m

Ballistic characteristics are very close to those of the M718, M741 projectiles described in Kropyva.

The optimum functioning height of the expelling charge is 250–350 m.
Four yellow weight marks in Kropyva is the "norm".

Does not function on impact. Do not disperse onto a hard surface (asphalt, concrete).
