Projectile L15A1
L15A1 - high-explosive fragmentation projectiles, with increased range and explosive power, designed to destroy enemy personnel, lightly armored targets and field engineering structures.
Three countries, the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain, produce this munition.
The projectile consists of a thin, specially hardened projectile body, which allowed the volume of explosive (TNT) to be increased, and the number of fragments to engage enemy personnel to be increased.
The 37 mm wide rotating band reliably stabilizes the projectile's movement in the barrel bore. The projectile is supplied with a lifting plug designed to protect the detonator area from accidental damage.
The 155 mm L15A1 HE projectile provides the capability to fire to a range of 24.7 km with propellant charge M232 charge 5, from 39-caliber guns.
The projectile is designed for 155 mm guns of various types. The body is made of high-strength forged steel and is thin-walled: this design gives more fragments and a more powerful blast effect. The user selects the fuze, which makes its use more flexible. The filling charge is about 11.3 kg of RDX/TNT explosive, and the intermediate detonator is RDX/WX8.
The fuze seat is made in accordance with STANAG 2916. The following are suitable: impact fuzes, proximity fuzes and multifunction fuzes, usually the L174 and L166. A PRF (Plug Representing Fuze) can be installed instead of the fuze; it is supplied together with compatible fuzes.

Usage notes
The L15A1 projectile is described in Kropyva for the guns FH70, M777. It has shown itself in the best light in combat work.
The super-powerful burst is ensured by more than 11 kg of RDX/TNT-based explosive. For comparison, a 152 mm projectile is filled with 7–7.5 kg of TNT.
The stable ballistic performance of the L15A1 is the key to accurate fire on the occupier. The projectile is in service with the UK Ministry of Defence and is used by 39- and 52-caliber guns.
