DM84, L166 – inductively set remote-action fuze
The DM84, L166 is an electronic multifunction artillery fuze with inductive setting, designed and suitable for use with 105 mm and 155 mm high-explosive fragmentation artillery projectiles, including extended-range ones. The fuze is suitable for use with artillery systems with barrel lengths of 39, 45 and 52 calibers.
It is also suitable for use with 120 mm rifled mortars and ensures functioning of projectiles on all charges, including the lowest charge.
The fuze body is made of steel to increase reliability when used on high charges.
One of the safety improvements included in the DM84 fuze is the ability to distinguish the different acceleration impulses produced by a drop of the fuze or projectile and by the process of leaving the barrel bore. This is achieved by incorporating a specially designed battery and a corresponding safety and functioning mechanism.
Technical specifications
The fuze has the following settings:
• highest functioning height: 12 m;
• lowest functioning height: 6 m;
• time setting: 1 s – 199.9 s;
• foliage (tree canopy): 3 m below the canopy
• functioning time when set to fragmentation action SQ: ≤ 250 µs;
• functioning time when set to high-explosive action (delay): 16 ms.
• shelf life: 15 years
Fuze Setting
Setting the fuze:
The fuze is set by the gun itself, if one is built in, or with the DM10 programmer (a general-purpose inductive setter). The fuze setting is stored permanently after being made, but it can be reprogrammed at any time before firing.
The DM84 provides a high level of in-flight safety. The fuze becomes armed about 3 seconds before the programmed flight time. The DM84, L166 has high resistance to electronic countermeasures.
