Projectile LU214

LU214 — smoke projectile
LU 214 a smoke projectile from a French manufacturer, designed for firing from 39- and 52-caliber guns.
It has the same ballistic characteristics as the high-explosive fragmentation projectile LU211 (HB/BB).
Functioning of the fuze causes detonation of the explosive charge, which in turn opens the upper shell of the projectile and ejects white phosphorus within a radius of 25–30 m.
White phosphorus ignites spontaneously; on contact with air it produces dense white smoke.
The projectile is filled with 8.7 kilograms of white phosphorus and, like the LU211, is offered with a hollow base (HB) and with a base-bleed generator (BB) to increase flight range.
Technical specifications
Maximum range (39 caliber);
HB – 24.7 km
BB – 30 km
Mass without fuze;
HB – 43.25 kg
BB – 44.65 kg
Length with fuze;
HB – 865 mm
BB – 867 mm
Amount of white phosphorus – 8.4/8.7 kg
Initial maximum projectile velocity:
HB – 939 m/s
BB – 946 m/s
Smoke screen size - R200 m
Smoke screen duration - 180 s
Usage notes
The LU214 projectile has the same ballistic characteristics as the LU211 projectile
As of 12.11.2023, the LU 211 projectile is not described in Kropyva.
The LU211 xx-HB in Kropyva for the FH70 can be equated to the L15A11. The LU 211 xx – BB (with a base-bleed generator) can very conditionally be equated to the flight of the cargo projectile M864 only, of course, without taking into account the seconds for an air burst. An overshoot is expected here
The BB variant of the LU 211 projectile is not a rocket-assisted projectile, so it cannot be compared with the projectile M549 (RAP)
