Impact Fuze M572 PD

M572 PD is a mechanical artillery fuze with impact and delayed-impact functions. It is designed for use with 155 mm high-explosive fragmentation artillery projectiles.

Fuze arming is initiated by inertial and rotational forces at a safe distance from the muzzle. The striker and the SQ detonator, located in the nose section, provide instantaneous action on impact. The delay device with an inertia striker is located at the rear of the fuze and delays functioning of the fuze by 20–60 ms.

The fuze is similar to, but structurally better than, the American M557 fuze. The main difference between the M572 and the M557 is that the M572 cavity is filled with about 71 g of epoxy resin. This gives overall rigidity to the entire fuze structure so that it can withstand increased acceleration forces.

Technical specifications

Fuze with impact and delayed-impact functions.

- fuze weight: - 970 g;
- arming into the combat position: after 33 m, at a velocity of at least 472 m/s
- delayed-action burst (DELAY): 0.05 s

Usage notes

An improved analogue of the American M557. No problems with mortar-angle firing. Unlike the M557, when set to the DELAY position it will function. Resistant to getting damp.

Do not use in rain.

Fuze Setting

Setting the fuze:

The fuze is screwed into the fuze socket of the projectile and tightened with a wrench.

To set the fuze:

- for impact action, the position SQ – (Super Quick) is the default position; check that the fuze indicator points to SQ. If not, use the wrench or a flat screwdriver to turn the plunger slot to the “SQ” position;
- for impact action with delay: use a special wrench or a flat screwdriver to turn the plunger slot to the “DELAY” position.
