M762, M767 fuze

M762A1/M762, M767 – electronic time fuzes

used with munitions of 75 mm to 155 mm caliber to initiate an air burst at a set time.

The M767 fuze also has an additional explosive charge at the bottom so that it can function on high-explosive fragmentation projectiles. In practice, however, a high percentage of failures to function is observed in the PD (fragmentation) setting.

Some recommend subtracting 0.2–0.3 seconds from the flight time to get an air burst above the target, and then gradually lowering the burst height, bringing the burst time set on the fuze closer to the projectile's flight time.

However, this requires accurately determining the time to impact, which is practically impossible given firing corrections.

Usage notes

Warnings:
Heavy rain may cause premature functioning of the fuze during firing.

Do not use the fuze for impact action

Once the fuze is activated, its service "life" is limited to 15 days.

On the first round, reduce the time setting by 0.2 s; this guarantees an air burst.

Then watch the dispersion pattern and adjust the burst height.

Keep in mind that if you reduce the time, the burst may fall short.

Fuze Setting

The fuze scale allows settings from 0.5 to 199.9 s.

Fuzes with electronic displays require the battery to be activated. If the battery is not activated, the fuze will not work at all and the projectile will not detonate on impact.

To activate the fuze, turn the setting ring until zeros appear on the display. Then press the button located in the nose section and turn the setting ring until dashes appear on the display.

Pressing the button again will display four zeros on the display. A triangular index will be under the first zero. By turning the setting ring you can change the zero position to a value in seconds.

The first three values are the time in seconds; the fourth value is tenths of a second.

The index is moved by pressing the button.

Example: to set a time of 45.1 s, the display should show 0451
