DM-34/DM-34A1 inductively set time fuze

DM34, DM-34A1 – inductively set remote-action fuze

DM34 - a German multipurpose fuze for high-explosive projectiles (HE), used as a proximity fuze with the ability to detonate at a standoff height; it can also be used in impact and delayed-impact modes with 155 and 203 mm projectiles (fragmentation and high-explosive action). The fuze can also be set to initiate at a specific point on the firing trajectory (air burst), which is done by setting the built-in timer.

The main setting of the fuze is the standoff height, since this setting has the highest effectiveness. Impact and delayed-impact action are used as a backup if the fuze fails to function in the standoff-height or air-burst setting.

Technical specifications

Fuze type: standoff height, air burst, fragmentation and high-explosive action. Main purpose: standoff height.
- delayed-impact burst time: 0.01 s;
- setting: inductive setter and manual setting;
- length 15.06 mm;
- weight 900 g.
The fuze is set using the inductive setter, and manually to select impact or delayed-impact action.

Fuze Setting

The fuze is set using the inductive setter. The setting allows you to set the burst height above the target.

To set the fuze to impact or delayed-impact action, use the inductive setter to set a time on the built-in timer that is greater than the projectile's time of flight.

To set the fuze to the “air burst” initiation, use the programmer to set a time on the built-in timer that corresponds to the required position of the projectile on the firing trajectory.

Manual setting allows you to select impact or delayed-impact (10 ms) initiation. To do this, move the plunger located on the fuze body (using a special wrench or a flat screwdriver) to the OV or MV position respectively.

If the fuze fails to function in the “standoff height” or “air burst” settings, it is initiated after meeting an obstacle (impact or delayed impact, depending on the plunger position).

To set with the programmer, take the projectile's flight time from Kropyva and subtract 0.2 s (for the first round). This corresponds to approximately 60 m of height above the target. Analyze the first burst and adjust the fuze time setting to achieve an air burst at a height of 10–30 m
