Projectile HE M1A1 ERFB BB (Base Bleed)

Projectile HE M1A1 ERFB BB (Base Bleed) — a highly effective 155 mm high-explosive fragmentation artillery munition designed to increase firing range by reducing aerodynamic drag. ERFB (Extended Range Full Bore) projectiles are designed for long-range firing, and BB (Base Bleed) technology allows the range to be increased even further through the use of a gas generator at the rear of the projectile.

The HE M1A1 ERFB BB (Base Bleed) projectile, with a base-bleed generator, is usually supplied with the M557 fuze, the M91 and M92 propellant charge, and the M191 A2 primer (from the same manufacturer).

The HE M1 ERFB BB is designed to engage ground targets (counter-battery fire, enemy columns, etc.) and for barrage fire. It is used by guns with barrel lengths of 39, 45 and 52 calibers.

Yellow paint on high-explosive fragmentation projectiles is not used in NATO countries; dark green paint is used instead for camouflage purposes.

The projectile is described in Kropyva with the M92 propellant charge.

Usage notes

The HE M1 ERFB BB (BASE BLEED) projectile is described in Kropyva with the M92 propellant charge. This propellant charge is close in characteristics to the charges M232, M232A1, TC-F, TCME 100, DM72

Important! The similar projectile HE M1 ERFB BT (BOAD TAIL) without a base-bleed generator has ballistic characteristics that differ from the HE M1 ERFB BB (BASE BLEED)
