Projectile M1128 (HE-BB)

M1128 - a new type of high-explosive fragmentation (HE) artillery projectile, with a base-bleed generator (BB), which can engage targets at long ranges. Developed to replace the M795 projectile and has improved ballistics and is capable of producing a powerful fragmentation effect on detonation. The M1128 is designed for use in 39- and 52-caliber howitzers.

The projectile has a longer firing range (30 km versus 22.5 km) than its predecessor, the M795 projectile. This is achieved thanks to a more aerodynamically refined shape and the use of a base-bleed gas generator. It also has improved accuracy and effectiveness compared with the rocket-assisted M549A1 projectile.

A gas generator, similar to that of the M864 cargo projectile, is installed in the base. The projectile body contains 10 kg of explosive (HE).

It can be used with any fuze, either with a short seating section, for example the M739A1, M767, M767A1 and M782, or with a long seating section, for example the M1156 course-correcting fuze. However, when it is used, the additional detonator in the nose of the projectile must be removed.

Technical specifications

- Mass of explosive: 10 kg
- Maximum range:
39 caliber - 30 km
